The lagoon covers about 28 km². Its waters are roughly three times saltier than the sea, and 24 cays lie among its mangroves.
Around 150 bird species have been reported in the area, including flamingos and herons; rhinoceros iguanas also live on the cays. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

Plan your visit
Tell us your date, group size and starting point. We will confirm availability, price and what the excursion includes before you book. Boat trips and local guides depend on availability and protected-area conditions.
You can ask about boat tours to see the cays and wildlife, and whether an optional mud bath is available. No activity is included until we confirm it with you.
The local Ministry of Environment information centre provides details on lagoon tours. Early morning is usually better for wildlife viewing.
